Devlog: Grampy P Stops Gaslighting (and Camping Badges Click Into Place)

More progress tonight! Grampy P didn’t technically get “better at conversation,” but he’s now fully synced to player status. He can truthfully tell you:

  • your consecutive festival day streak
  • current game completion %
  • total XP earned
  • badge count, live and accurate

It’s one of those invisible updates most folks wouldn’t notice… but the result is simple: Grampy P won’t gaslight you anymore.

The profile bar, though…

That profile completion bar is still reading the wrong temperature. It used to treat 500 XP as “50%”, which is… not how math works. I’ll fix that logic so it reflects real progress instead of a random milestone.

Camping Games: badges wired + tested

I took a lap through the ⛺ Camping Games zone and made sure the badges actually award. That took a minute, but it’s stable now, and I’m feeling like I’ve entered the global testing + polish phase. I hadn’t pushed to main (whoops), so I finally did that. Now I’m just clicking into modes and making sure the whole thing holds together.

Also: balancing is next. I need to play the crap out of this game and tune the payouts.

What’s left?

Short list, crisp goals:

  • ✅ Verify all existing badges fire correctly
  • ➕ Add a couple new badges, then tune their thresholds
  • ⚖️ Balance points & XP payouts per mode
  • 🎶 Add music to MathTips Village
  • 🧓 Give Grampy P a lot more love (dialogue + math help)
  • 🍔 QuickServe: polish Phil’s background
  • ♾️ Infinity Lake: shrink buttons, free up layout space
  • 📖 Story Mode: a whole new arc (parking this for v1.1.0 vibes)

Where I’m playing now

Funny twist: I started this project to wake up my brain with some math games… and now I keep hanging out in Camping Games. That zone is just fun. The rest is catching up.

The bigger picture

This thing is almost built. People can play it as intended, bounce between modes, unlock badges and backgrounds, and generally have a good time. I’m not expecting an overnight phenomenon, but who knows—it’s here now, and it’s got range.

Time to keep building, polishing, and adding until SnowCone MathFest oozes an impressive drip. 🧪✨
