📕 Kids Camping Dev Blog: “v0.6.6 — Tents Up, Cars Parked!”

Tonight… we finish up a little early 🍂 — and we get to think…

Kids Camping is rolling along!

It took a lot of persistence — and the toughest thing, as always, is the scaling. That damn scaling…

I take this game, and whenever I think it looks good, I twist it, I mash it, I bash it, I move the viewport in and out. I TRY to break it. And usually? It breaks. But each time, it breaks a little less. 💪

Switching between desktop and mobile is not easy — the way layouts shift, snap, stretch… it all makes every pixel matter. But I ain’t tied to nothing but my code. No login to some foreign server… you are the server (and GitHub). It’s still all local for now — and that’s the way I like it.

Two complete modes are now locked in:

  • QuickServe Pavilion
  • Infinity Lake

Go check ’em out! I’ll polish them more one day, but for now? They rock and roll as intended 🎸

🏕️ Welcome to Kids Camping — Our Festival Starter Pack!

Version v0.6.6 is LIVE!

  • 🎪 The Tent Game is tested, tuned, and glowin’.
  • 🚗 The Parking Game… ohhh baby.

What started as a mushroom popper fidget mode has evolved into a full cycling mechanic of 11 vehicles — all honking, scoring, and parking in a gloriously melodic order. The points are a little wild right now, but the loop is solid:

  • 🎬 Intro
  • 🦕 Dino characters
  • 🔁 Real gameplay rhythm

It’s got three levels of fun and will def have a badge before launch.

Only issue? The cars still load a little slow the first time…

// 🍧 PRELOAD PNGs BEFORE UI RENDERS
import('./preloadParkingSprites.js').then(mod => mod.preloadParkingSprites());

is in place — but didn’t seem to help when testing on someone else’s phone. 😬

Still cookin’ on that.

🔮 What’s Next? Bug Swatters & Lightning Jar Capturers 🐛

The final game in the mini-game camping zone is still TBD — but I want it to be so simple that even a 1-year-old could score XP and Camping Score Points (which, side note, you really shouldn’t be handing your 1-year-old a phone — but hey, baby geniuses gotta start somewhere).

Some ideas:

  • 🦟 Bug Swat Mode — mosquitoes are part of the festival experience…
  • 🌟 Lightning Bug Catcher — jar ‘em up, baby!

I lean toward the mosquito game, cause I like the idea of teaching kids to defend themselves. Not sorry.

Once that final mini-game is locked in — it’s STORY TIME.

🐾 Enter the Elder Archetype…

After Kids Camping wraps, I finally get to bring HIM to life:

🐱 Grampy P. — The Wise One.
🧠 Consumer of Pi.
🎸 Pythagorus Cat.

He’s coming.

He’s real.

And Story Mode will finally have its soul.
